West Ham 1 vs 0 Arsenal: Player Ratings- Surprise Man of The Match and Flops Of The Match

Arsenal News HQ brings you the latest Arsenal news, match analysis, transfer news, injury news, team news and rumours from trusted media outlets around the World.

Arsenal slumped to a disappointing 1-0 defeat away to London rivals West Ham.

The match saw the Gunners hugely lacking in creativity at the middle of the pitch and were forced to work their way up the field through the flanks.

The defeat means Unai Emery and his men have only won just one of their last 5 trips on the road away from home.

Here is how we rate the players with Iwobi being our Man Of The Match and two Flop Of The Match in Granit Xhaka and Maithland-Niles.

  1. Granit Xhaka has not quite lived up to expectation. Too absent minded and has zero ruthlessness required of a defensive midfielder. Best to move him on and bring in a better enforcer to provide cover for the defense. Maitland-Niles on his part can only improve if played in his favourite position which of course is not right wing back. Not enough stamina to cope with the demands of that position albeit blessed with a bundle of skills.
What beats me is why Emery continues to give Guendozi first starts in league matches.
It ‘s pretty obvious that the young man is yet to mature football wise to play for a team of Arsenal stature. He lacks pace, stamina and good positioning to break up plays. Usually he is lost in the crowd, bereft of how to effect a change when his team mates are chasing the ball in their own half. He becomes a minus to his team . Even when he is in possession of the ball, he fails to read the body language and intentions as they plan to run into positions. Guendozi throws up his arms in confusion and ends up giving the ball away always. He has potentials no doubt, but for now he belongs to team B until he matures.
