Arsenal are monitoring FC Porto midfielder Danilo Pereira ahead of the January transfer window.

Danilo has been linked with a move to Arsenal for quite sometime and those links have refused to go away.

Arsenal are reportedly looking at Pereira as an option to strengthen its midfield.

Jack Wilshere could leave the club when his contract expires at the end of the season and the Porto man is being considered as a replacement.

According to A’Bola via the Daily Cannon Arsenal have stepped up its interest in Danilo and sent scout to watch him in Porto’s 4-0 win over Guimaraes last Thursday.

The defender gave a good account of himself, scoring Porto’s second goal of the game and completing the full 90 minutes.

An official bid is now expected to follow suit but there could be a potential stumbling block to a switch happening. He has a £53m release clause in his contract that has about four and a half years to run and knowing how difficult it can be to negotiate with Porto, we may have to trigger the clause for any move to happen.

However, Danilo is the kind of midfielder Arsenal need, his physicality and great work ethic makes him a very good defensive midfielder. Defensively he is good and his improved goal scoring record this season shows he can contribute to Arsenal’s attacking style of play.
