Arsenal have joined the race to sign AS Monaco midfielder Tiemoue Bakayoko, according to Gunnersphere.com.
The Gunners have been linked with a host of midfielders since the beginning of this winter transfer window and Bakayoko is said to be high on Wenger’s wish list.
Arsenal’s midfield has been depleted following injuries to Santi Cazorla and Francis Coquelin as well as the departure of Mohamed Elneny to the African Cup of Nations. And Le10Sport claims, Bakayoko has been identified as the man to shore up the Gunners midfield.
The 22 year old has been one of Monaco’s star performers this season and Arsenal scouts have been more than impressed with his performances.
The report further claims we have made a “concrete approach” to sign the midfielder this month.
Manchester United, Liverpool and Chelsea have been linked with the player but it is Liverpool and Arsenal who are most interested in the midfield enforcer. The PL duo have made contact with Monaco but have been told that the player is not for sale.
It remains to be seen if Wenger would be able to use his French ties to convince Monaco into selling the midfielder but one thing is certain, it would be a difficult deal to complete.
It is unlikely that a deal will happen this winter because the player will be unable to feature for us in the Uefa Champions League having played for Monaco already this season.
