Arsene Wenger has revealed he doesn’t regret sending Jack Wilshere out on loan following the club’s midfield mini-crisis.
Wilshere joined AFC Bournemouth on a season long loan last summer due to high level of competition for midfield places at the Emirates.
The midfielder who had not played well for Arsenal in the last two seasons due to injury needed match time to work on his fitness and knowing that will be difficult to get at the Emirates, he opted to leave on loan with the blessings of Arsene Wenger.
However, Arsenel have become light in that position following injuries to Santi Cazorla and Francis Coquelin as well as the departure of Mohammed Elneny to the AFCON competition.
Aaron Ramsey and Granit Xhaka are now Wenger’s only fit centre midfielder but the boss claims he doesn’t regret sending Wilshere we out on loan.
‘Yes, I could use Jack now but I still think it was the right decision for him to go.
‘What looks unfair at the moment is that you know at some stage of the season you could need the player.
‘But at the start of the season you need to have the right balance between competition, numbers and chances for the player to play.
‘And if Jack had not played until now, he would not be ready to play now.’
Should we lose any of Xhaka or Ramsey now, Wenger could wish he had included a clause to bring Wilshere back to the Emirates.
Chelsea have used similar clause to recall Nathan Ake who joined Bournemouth on loan last summer too. We would have been able to do same had we inserted the clause.
