Arsene Wenger has decided to change Alexis Sanchez’s position this season, according to The Mirror.
Wenger has deployed the Chile international in a centre forward position this season instead of his usual position out wide and the boss believes that is the best position for him.
The report claims Sanchez has temperamental issues and Wenger has learned how to manage the winger’s temperament. The boss held talks with the winger in the summer to clarify the situation.
It is believed Wenger told the forward of his intention to play him through the middle in the meeting and also made it clear he will have to accept being rested this season.
Sanchez is a player who loves to be on the pitch every time which was evident in his reaction when he was substituted against Norwich last season and the boss is keen to avoid such situation this time around.
Wenger is determined to make Sanchez work as a centre-forward this season because he thinks the Chilean is too selfish to play on the wings and doesn’t do enough defensive work when deployed out wide.
Sanchez started as a centre forward against Paris Saint-Germain on Tuesday and responded by scoring a late goal to secure a point for the team.
The Chile international offers a different kind of threat to Olivier Giroud when deployed upfront, he doesn’t possess the physical presence to bully opposition defenders but have the pace to punish them. The forward has performed well when deployed in a centre-forward position for the Chile National team and it shouldn’t be a problem for Arsenal.
