Denis Suarez is set to hold talks with Unai Emery over reducing his training workload at Arsenal having been dogged by a groin injury in recent weeks.
The 25-year-old has struggled to make an impact in north London since joining Arsenal from Barcelona on loan in January, playing for a combined total of 95 minutes across six substitute appearances.
After barely featuring for Barcelona during the first half of the campaign, Suarez had hoped to do enough to convince Emery to sign him in the summer with Arsenal able to purchase the Spanish international for £20m.
However, time is running out for Suarez to prove himself at the Emirates and his latest injury setback could restrict his minutes further.
According to the Daily Mail, Suarez has pain along the pubic bone and there are concerns that he is suffering from a sports hernia.
Arsenal’s physiotherapists are keen to see how Suarez reacts to increased rest and have suggested that a reduced workload in training could help him return to full fitness quicker.
Suarez will discuss his training schedule with Emery over the next 24 hours.
Suarez was Arsenal’s only signing in January and he was expected to play a key role for the club after enjoying a successful spell playing under Emery at Sevilla during the 2014-15 season.
The pair won the Europa League together with Sevilla defeating Dnipro in the final. It hasn’t worked out so far, though, with Suarez struggling to get up to speed in the Premier League, suffering from fitness-related problems and finding himself behind the likes of Henrikh Mkhitaryan and Alex Iwobi in the pecking order.
