[Team News]: Cech guaranteed a start as Mertesacker returns ahead of Sheffield trip.

After winning their last two matches in the Champions League and Premier League respectively- all in a span of four days- Arsenal will be looking to maintain their fine run of form with a win on Tuesday night. The Gunners travel to Hillsborough to play against Sheffield Wednesday in the Capital One Cup.

As such, manager Arsene Wenger released the following team news on the Official Club website ahead of the trip to the Championship side.

The boss said that there are no injuries from Saturday’s Premier League encounter in which Arsenal edged off Everton 2-1 at the Emirates.

The Frenchman added that Per Mertesacker will be available for selection, but didn’t give any hints on whether the BFG will make a start.

Aaron Ramsey, Jack Wilshere, Danny Welbeck and Tomas Rosicky all remain fully sidelined from the League Cup showdown. He said:

Per Mertesacker is available again after illness. Nobody else is coming back. Arteta will not be fit. Ramsey, Wilshere, Welbeck and Rosicky of course are all out too.

Wenger also provided a resounding assurance that Petr Cech will start between the sticks against The Owls since David Ospina is still out.

All in all good news all round, with no fresh setbacks after Saturday’s victory.
