Swansea City vs Arsenal Preview

Arsenal travel to Wales to face Swansea City seeking redemption for their midweek debacle in the Champions league against Anderlecht. Arsene Wenger’s men lost a 3 goal lead against the Belgian side and were criticised from all quarters for their shoddy defending and lack of steel in the side. If Arsenal really want to get three points, a clean sheet is imperative. The Gunners have kept consecutive clean sheets in the league but they have come against lesser sides.

If Arsenal manage to keep the likes of Bony, Siggurdson away from goal, we have a great chance of nicking one at the other end. Lukasz Fabianski faces his old club for the first time after leaving Arsenal this summer. Surely he’s gonna have a blinder. It always happens against us. We made Jordan Henderson look good.

Where to start, the injuries show no signs of abating, our defence is non-existent and the pressure is piling. Swansea have always been a tough one even at the best of times. After what happened on Tuesday, I would be glad with a point but a point would do us no good. A win would take us 1 point short of Manchester City. In terms of team news, Wilshere is back but Arteta is out.

As pointed out by Wenger the defence needs more protection and as a team we have to defend better. Take note Aaron. Upfront Welbeck is slowly fizzling out but a goal or two would be great. Alexis is Arsenal, he’s indispensable. Cazorla should be dropped, he’s missing far too many chances. Whatever the team Arsene picks, he must motivate his team to take the game to Swansea and win the game.

Garry Monk’s men after a quite fantastic start to the season have stumbled in the last month. However they have lost once in their last 5 games including a hard earned point at Goodison where they were reduced to ten men. Jonjo Shelvey, sent off in that Everton game is suspended, so Tom Carroll (on loan from that lot down the road) and Ki Sung-Yeung should hold the midfield for the Swans.

Bony and Sigurdsson are dangerous players and against a make shift defence that is low on confidence, they should have chances. But it’s important the home side don’t concede at the other end. Fabianski will be charged for this one and will kill for a clean sheet.

With the run of fixtures coming up, Arsenal must return to the country with 3 points or kiss the title goodbye.
