Brazil wonderkid Gabriel Martinelli has hinted at a move to Arsenal by following the Gunners on social media ahead of a prospective £6.5million move to the Emirates.

The Gunners have tracked the 17-year-old for the last 18 months after head of international recruitment Francis Cagigao flagged up the forward’s potential.

Martinelli qualifies for Italy through his Father’s citizenship and will therefore not need a work permit to complete his move to the Gunners.

Arsenal have reportedly already agreed a fee with Ituano FC and Martinelli has indicated he’s excited for his move by following the Gunners’ Instagram account.

It’s unclear whether the teenager will go straight into Unai Emery’s first team squad or whether the forward will have to bide his time to breakthrough.

Arsenal’s transfer budget is expected to be a modest £45m this summer and Emery will consider selling some players to raise funds.

The Spaniard confirmed after the Gunners’ Europa League final defeat to Chelsea that there would be departures as a result of the club’s failure to qualify for the Champions League.

‘Our idea is to continue to carry on and improve with the young players that have arrived,’ Emery said.

‘Maybe some players need to leave but it’s not the moment to speak about that.’

‘We have the possibility for a lot of players to improve. We have young players getting the first experience of a final and I am positive for our future with young players getting better in our way.

‘I am very proud of our work, not very proud to not achieve our target, but proud of our work because I think the players did all they could to achieve our target and we are closer to other teams.

‘The next year we can continue with the same team with some players coming to help us get better’
