Sheffield United boss Chris Wilder has confirmed they’re making a move for Folarin Balogun this summer, though it’s up to their CEO and Arsenal to agree a deal.

Speaking to the media on Wednesday, Sheffield United’s Chris Wilder confirmed their interest in Folarin Balogun. In quotes reported by the official club account on Twitter, he said:

“We made an enquiry regarding the young man at Arsenal. That’s left with the CEO at our football club and at Arsenal. We want attributes at the top of the pitch that move us forward.”

The Daily Mail report that Arsenal rejected a £3m bid from Sheffield United for Folarin Balogun. The Blades were offering £3m plus add-ons for a permanent transfer, but Arsenal want a fee that could come to £15m with bonuses.

Arsenal already turned down a £5m offer from Brentford in January. Other reports in August suggested they wanted at least £8m. Balogun only has a year on his deal, but the club believe the level of interest in him justifies a higher fee.

The list of clubs reportedly after him is long. Before we even heard about Sheffield United’s interest, there were already 10 clubs in the mix if you include Brentford.

Stuttgart, Werder Bremen and Eintracht Frankfurt all hold an interest from the Bundesliga. Brighton and Southampton are among the Premier League clubs following the striker. AZ Alkmaar, PSV, AC Milan and Roma add to the list from elsewhere.

Balogun scored against senior opposition in an EFL Trophy game last week. He gave the Arsenal u21s the lead over a strong Ipswich Town side.

That only kept his good 2019/20 form going, as he scored 10 and assisted four in 16 academy games last campaign. The PL2 top scorer should probably be worth a little more than £3m.
