Arsenal youngster Benik Afobe has been on loan spells in six different clubs since getting promoted to the senior team in 2010. The homegrown striker was recently in an interview with Arsenal.com and revealed some of his best moments.
The Under 21 England international is currently on loan to MK Dons in League One. He recalls the 4-0 victory over former Premier League champions Manchester United in the Capital One Cup back in August as one his best performances.
The 21-year old came off the bench and struck twice past the sensational David De Gea in a memorable night in Buckinghamshire.
“When we got drawn against them we all thought, ‘here we go, we’re going to get smashed’,” Afobe told Arsenal.com. “But every club goes through their rough patches and we were thankful that we caught Manchester United when they were having theirs.”
When he came on he found himself in a goal scoring position and made the most out of it by scoring with his first touch.
“It was a great feeling, especially to do it on TV against a Premier League team. You build on it and get more confident as the game goes on. I couldn’t believe my second goal went in. Someone had to pinch me because it felt like I was in Heaven at the time,” said the forward.
For his second of the night, Afobe said he tried to put the ball through the legs of United defender Jonny Evans. He luckily got a bounce which ricocheted through two players, leaving him to calmly slot it past De Gea with his weaker left foot.
He added that:
“When I picture it in my head now I still get chills. It’s the best feeling I’ve ever had in football.”
I can only imagine how great it felt, genuinely chuffed for the youngster.
