Alexis Sanchez’ crazy Manchester United wages are reportedly causing the club problems as they try to get David de Gea and Antony Martial to renew their deals.
As happened at Arsenal with Aaron Ramsey after Mesut Ozil’s mega-deal was agreed, United are finding that paying stupid money to players causes problems when it’s time to renew others.
It’s why Arsenal were so adamant about keeping a wage structure in place until they threw it out the window last season in Arsene Wenger and Ivan Gazidis’s last hurrah.
According to a few reports earlier this week, de Gea and Martial’s agent are using Alexis’ salary as a benchmark for their renewal demands.
De Gea is said to want £300kpw, an understandable request in relation to Alexis’s wages given he has been their most important player for a couple of seasons now.
The club are also said to be having trouble finding agreement with Anthony Martial, although part of that could be down to Jose Mourinho and personality politics.
Arsenal, and, more specifically, Aaron Ramsey, ran into this same problem recently after Mesut Ozil was handed a whopping payrise.
The Welshman had a contract offer on the table for ages from the club but his agent fannied around for so long the club withdrew it, much to Ramsey’s surprise.
