According to reports, it is looking more and more likely that Aaron Ramsey will agree a contract extension to stay at Arsenal, with the club offering a significant pay-rise on his current deal.
The Telegraph‘s Jeremy Wilson writes that “the signs are so far positive that Ramsey will agree an improve extension”.
The Welsh midfielder is currently earning around £100,000-a-week, but Arsenal have already offered a significant increase on that, and Wilson believes the 27-year-old could expect up to £200,000-a-week.
In all honesty, it’s hard to argue Ramsey doesn’t deserve a pay-rise like that if he stays at Arsenal. He’ll reach 10 years with the club next month, and is about to give his peak years to the fans at the Emirates.
He won Arsenal’s Player of the Season in 2017/18, as well as Goal of the Season, proving how much of a popular figure he is with fans.
The midfielder scored/contributed to 23 goals in 32 appearances last season, stepping up on a number of the big occasions for the team. He’s someone the club won’t want to lose as they move into a new era with Unai Emery.
The proposition should be attractive to Ramsey as well. He’ll get more money, of course, but Arsenal have also addressed a lot of the uncertainty around the team recently.
Özil, Mkhitaryan, Aubameyang, Lacazette and Xhaka are all tied down long term, along with Emery of course.
Same goes for Bellerin, and any new defensive signings. There’s almost zero possibility Ramsey gets trapped and left alone whilst all the current first-team players leave.
Hopefully he’ll become the next player to commit his future to Arsenal.
