Arsenal are looking to make one or two loan signings in the January transfer window, rather than permanent deals, according to reports.
Goal report that the summer spending at Arsenal makes it unlikely they’ll make any permanent signings in January. There are still concerns about the squad though, so they’re aiming for a loan deal or two.
If they discover an opportunity for a permanent deal ‘too good to turn down’, they’ll take it. Otherwise, loans are the focus.
They’ve already shown an interest in Merih Demiral, but Juventus don’t want to loan out the defender. Jerome Boateng is also an option, but the Arsenal hierarchy are acutely aware of his fitness and game time issues.
Dayot Upamecano is reportedly a genuine target, but one for the summer. From the sounds of things, the process of finding a loan defender to help out immediately is in the early stages.
Obviously, the board want to avoid a repeat of the Denis Suarez situation. Whether the former Barcelona man had the ability to make a difference or not, he never had any chance with the state of his fitness.
They need to get things right this time. If they do, it should give the squad a boost for the FA Cup and Europa League runs.
