Arsenal are leading the race for Paris Saint-Germain’s Adrien Rabiot, who is open to leaving the club this summer, according to reports in France.
The usually reliable RMC report that the Gunners are favourites to snap up the midfielder if he decides not to extend his contract.
Rabiot has a deal until 2019, so if his salary demands aren’t met and he doesn’t agree an extension, this would be PSG’s last chance to sell him for a decent fee.
Paris United claim Rabiot has held a meeting with the PSG hierarchy, and reiterated his contract demands, whilst also making it clear that his priority is to stay if they’re met.
Spanish outlet Sport report that PSG manager Thomas Tuchel “doesn’t see keeping Rabiot as a priority” though. He’s happy for the midfielder to either stay or go.
If the Ligue 1 club do sell, various reports suggest they want around €40m for Rabiot. That certainly doesn’t put him out of the price range of Barcelona, and even Arsenal could probably afford that sort of investment for a player of the 23-year-old’s quality.
Arsenal have already made two midfield signings this summer, in Matteo Guendouzi and Lucas Torreira. The centre of the pitch is clearly no longer a priority, but if you have the chance to add a player like Rabiot to your squad for a relatively cheap price, it’s one you take.
We’ll see how the player’s conversations with his current club progress in the final weeks of the transfer window.
