Ozil speaks out after Emery drops him for defeat to West Ham

Mesut Ozil trained alongside Mohamed Elneny during Arsenal’s defeat to West Ham after being dropped from the matchday squad by Unai Emery.

The midfielder hasn’t played for Arsenal since Boxing Day due to a knee injury but he was available for selection this weekend having fully trained in the days leading up to the game.

But Emery opted to omit Ozil from his squad once again and gave an abrupt response when asked about the 30-year-old’s absence shortly before Arsenal kicked off against West Ham on Saturday.

‘The players here are better for the match today,’ said Emery.

But in a video which was posted on Elneny’s Instagram account after Arsenal’s team news was announced, Ozil said in Arabic: ‘Don’t be sad, God is with us.’

Ozil, who is Arsenal’s top earner with his £350,000-a-week contract, will now be targeting a return for the Gunners’ clash against Chelsea next Saturday.

Emery, meanwhile, suffered another setback in his bid to secure a top-four finish as his side were beaten by West Ham at the London Stadium.

Declan Rice score his first goal for West Ham to secure victory for Manuel Pellegrini’s side, while Arsenal will be six points behind fourth-placed Chelsea if they beat Newcastle United at Stamford Bridge on Saturday evening.

  1. Emery wants to get rid of Ozil and bring in his own signings; and he’d gotten away with dropping Ozil because the team went on that long unbeaten streak against mostly inferior opposition. Now the club is fighting for top 6 and faltering against not only traditional rivals but mid level aspirants like West Ham.

The club was devoid of creativity until Ramsey made his appearance. Guenduozi is a disaster; he’s like a chicken with his head cut off; constantly out of position, and constantly turning the ball over or making passes that winged Pegasus couldn’t chase down.

Torreira and Xhaka or Torreira and Ramsey both for great midfield twos depnding on the team’s need for a defensive or offensive approach in a 4-2-3-1; a formation that suits the players available, but Emery is determined to play the same way Liverpool does in a 4-3-3. The problem is, he does not have the players for it.

Bellerin and Kolasinac both work well in a back 4. Against a free-flowing attack, using Xhaka and Torreira in front of the back four shields them well. The attacking three should be Aubameyang, Ozil, and either Ramsey, Iwobi, or Mkhitaryan, depending on fitness issues. Lacazette up front in front of those three would be like the sharp tip of a spear.

If Arsenal wanted a more defensive set up, they could substitute Ramsey in the #10 role behind Lacazette and move Ozil to the left and Aubameyang to the right. The club’s four best players are Ozil, Auba, Lacazette, and Ramsey. To not have them on the pitch is more about Emery’s fragile ego than playing good football.

  2. For fucks sake emery put him in the squad at least!! Ozil and Ramsey are the only creative world class players we have left.
Those robots that run and run need them desperately!!!

    1. I think now Martin Keown is happy for Ozil. And his no longer talk about Ozil. Arsenal lost 5 games without Ozil
