Doncaster Rovers have extended the loan of Arsenal 21-year-old Ben Sheaf to the end of the season, with both clubs confirming the extension today.

Arsenal posted on Tuesday afternoon that they’ve extended Ben Sheaf’s initial short-term loan to the end of the season. Doncaster Rovers also posted about the extension, with quotes from Sheaf himself on the subject.

“I’m extremely happy to be staying until the end of the season,” Sheaf said. “It’s a fantastic club with great fans, staff and players. I’ve thoroughly enjoyed my time here so far and I’m looking forward to a positive second half of the season.”

Sheaf is up to 25 appearances for the season so far, playing in midfield. From an Arsenal point of view, it’s easy to see why they want to extend. You can’t ask for much more than regular playing time for your loanees.

The same goes for the player himself, as long as he feels like his team are using him in a position and role that suits him.

The encouraging thing is that Doncaster have decided to extend though. Some of our recent reports from Rovers fans suggest he’s having a bit of a rough time at the moment. The fact the club are sticking by him anyway suggests they see what he’s capable of.

Doncaster Rovers clearly believe Sheaf can rediscover his form in the second half of the season. It’s up to him to prove them right.
