[Match Preview] Watford vs Arsenal: More of the same please

Club football is finally back to end the recent international break that was worse than usual. After the schooling of Manchester United, Arsenal play Watford at Vicarage Road today as they look to keep up with leaders Manchester City. Watford have had a solid start to their life in the Premier League as they look to rack up the points at home in their mission to stay up. While our away form has been spectacular, Watford away is the kind of game where we have often slipped up in the past.

Arsenal regroup on the back of a stirring victory over traditional rivals United. With Bayern on the horizon it’s tempting to rest players but the reality is that we need something of a miracle in Europe. Domestically we are in a good position and let’s not lose that. To be fair we should take the Watford game more seriously than the midweek one. The team news for the game is that Alexis and Koscielny face late fitness tests but Mikel Arteta and Mathieu Flamini are available. Theo Walcott’s sensational form means he will start ahead of Olivier Giroud.

The Premier League new boys haven’t been overwhelmed at all in their step up to the top tier. The home side are excellent defensively and have just conceded a single goal all season at Vicarage Road. Watford will look to deny Arsenal gaps and and hit the Gunners on the break. Jose Manuel Jurado, Joel Ekstrand and Tommie Hoban are unavailable while Behrami and Nyom are expected to feature.

The game is a classic attack vs defence and Arsenal have to win these games if they harbour intentions of competing for the title.
