[Match Preview] Sheffield Wednesday vs Arsenal: Can the Owls hunt the Gunners?

The world will be watching with bated breath tonight as Sheffield Wednesday host Arsenal in the greatest Cup competition in the history of English Football – The Capital One Cup.

Nope, no matter how I exaggerate, the Capital One Cup fails to inspire any sort of emotion and it remains our least priority. The competition basically is for the likes of Swansea, Norwich and Tottenham to compete. Wednesday will be relying on their home advantage to cause an upset in the fourth round; Carlos Carvalhal’s men stunned Newcastle United in the previous round and will be hoping for a similar result.

After what was a quite brilliant weekend, Arsenal have a trip to Hillsborough. The Gunners will be looking to keep their run going but its one of those matches in which losing is not a painful process. The League is our priority this season and if the Cup remains a distraction then let’s shove it. There will be wholesale changes in the team today. After a gruelling week in which we played three energy sapping games, it’s time to rest some tired legs. Petr Cech will definitely play as Ospina misses out with injury while Macey is too inexperienced. Mesut Ozil, Alexis, Santi are all likely to be rested. Chambers, Campbell and Debuchy will get much needed game time. Per Mertesacker is available after recovering from an illness.

Having knocked out a Premier League outfit in their previous round, Wednesday will be confident of getting a result against the Gunners. The hosts are running strong in the Championship and are vying for a place in the playoffs. The Owls have a lengthy injury list however, and Michael Turner, Alex Lopez, Matias and Modou Sougou are all unavailable.

It’s a game in which Arsenal are massive favorites but one in which a loss would also be welcome.
