Arsenal have a shot at redemption when they host a team formerly known as Manchester United at the Emirates this Wednesday. The Gunners should respond in the right manner after the Liverpool debacle.
United themselves are coming off a dispiriting 2-2 draw with Fulham. The cottagers scored in the last minute of stoppage time at Old Trafford.(sounds familiar last minute goal but this time the away side scored ha ha ha ).
The Gunners though will be relieved to some extent also that Man City were held to a draw at Norwich.
I am in hyper Schadenfreude mode. The fixture may have lost some of its glamour in the recent years but it still remains a marquee fixture. Arsenal’s record against Man United in the past 6 or seven seasons is poor and the Red devils are due a pasting.
Where to start, the midfield or the defence? Arsenal were all over the place at Anfield. The title is by no means gone but anything less than 3 points will see us losing further ground in the title race.
Mesut Ozil must silence the doubters and produce a performance worthy of his unquestionable talent.Mikel Arteta and whoever plays alongside him in the double pivot should protect the back four and not leave them exposed as they did so infamously at Anfield.
Mertesacker and Koscielny must sort out the defence. Rosicky may start and the Ox may be moved to the centre or may come on as a sub. No fresh injuries with Yaya Sanogo set to return.
United are languishing in seventh position and it is hard to believe that the same team minus Mata and Fellaini romped to the title last season.
It has been a case of one step forward and two back for United this season. In the reverse fixture United edged a flu swept Arsenal( we are either injury ridden or flu swept)1-0. The match also sees the return of a little dutch boy to the Emirates and will no doubt be jeered.
Maroune Fellaini is unavailable and so is Evans. Phil Jones may return after recovering from a concussion. David Moyes may opt for a three man midfield to counter Arsenal’s threats and also not to be overrun in midfield. Arsenal’s midfield are a class apart but you never know which Arsenal will turn up.
MAN TO WATCH
The German is enduring something of a lean patch and will be looking to banish the Anfield memories. He is a top player and no doubt will come good. You don’t play for Madrid and Germany if you are ordinary and Ozil is not ordinary.
The Spaniard was seen as a saviour who could revive United’s season. Although United require superman-esque saving the former Chelsea man is showing what United were missing. Give him time on the ball at your own peril. Arteta will have his work cut out against his compatriot.
Arsenal must start the game on the front foot and not with the dreaded handbrake on. United will be looking to play on the counter, keeping it nice and tight and trying to nick a win. The onus is on Arsenal though to come flying out of the blocks and pulverize United.
Come on you Gunners. Lets put United out of their misery.
Arsenal 2 – United 0
