AC Milan are set to rival Arsenal for the signature of Besiktas midfielder Oguzhan Ozyakup.
Reports in Turkey have continuously linked Arsenal with a move for Ozyakup who has been very impressive for Besiktas in recent years.
The midfielder came through Arsenal academy, but didn’t make a league debut for the club. Arsenal are understood to be impressed by how Ozyakup has developed and are now paying keen interest as well as monitoring the player’s situation in Turkey.
We were recently rumored to be preparing a January bid for him but Calciomercato has now added that we could face competition from AC Milan.
The report via Daily Cannon says Milan are watching Ozyakup’s situation with keen interest but are yet to make any formal approach.
Ozyakup’s contract expires at the end of the season and he is yet to sign a new deal. So a decision on his future would have to be made sooner rather than later.
Arsenal are entitled to 30% of Ozyakup’s transfer fee should the opt against a return to the Emirates, meaning it is only a January move that will favor us because if he leaves for nothing in the summer, that opportunity is gone.
Wenger could also make a move for the Turkish international who has been consistently linked with us in the new year. With uncertainty surrounding Jack Wilshere’s future coupled with the fitness problems facing Santi Carzola, Arsenal may need to look for a new centre midfielder and Ozyakup wouldn’t be a bad option.
