Former Arsenal defender Gabriel Paulista has hit out at his time at the Emirates.
The defender left the club for Valencia in the summer and still looks back at his time here with regret. Gabriel says he wasn’t given the opportunity he wanted and the lack of trust from Wenger eventually led to his exit.
“The injuries definitely didn’t help, but I think I deserved more opportunities at Arsenal ,” he said.
“I felt down as the only way I played was if my teammates were injured.
“I didn’t feel OK with that at all.
“I played one of my best games against Manchester City [in last season’s FA Cup semi-final] and was very happy,
“But then came the derby with Spurs and I gave away a penalty, and didn’t really play again.
“I wasn’t happy but I’m not mad. I’ll always be grateful to Arsenal .”
Gabriel spent a year and a half at Arsenal and never really got going. He was inconsistent at best and one can understand why Wenger never gave him the opportunity he wanted.
A move to Valencia looked inevitable and I believe it was the best decision for all parties.
