Emile Smith Rowe is pleased to have made it back onto the pitch for RB Leipzig on Saturday, finally making his debut months after he completed his loan transfer.

Smith Rowe moved to the Bundesliga club in the January transfer window, but at the time he was still struggling to recover from an injury that had already kept him out for a couple of months with Arsenal.

Unfortunately, the return to full fitness has been a slow one, but the midfielder finally rejoined the competitive action on Saturday.

It was no more than a token appearance, in truth. The 18-year-old came on in the 90th minute and only made three touches before the game ended.

Nonetheless, he created one big chance to give a glimpse of what could be to come. As the ball was crossed in with seconds to go, Smith Rowe touched it on to Marcel Halstenburg, who forced the Wolfsburg ‘keeper into a save.

The youngster seemed pleased to have made another step in the right direction:

Leipzig still have at least six games to go before the end of the season, possibly seven depending on the outcome of their DFB Cup semi-final on Tuesday 23rd April.

Smith Rowe will be hoping to play a part in confirming his loan team’s Champions League qualification (they’re currently third) and maybe winning a trophy on top of that.
