Olivier Giroud has hinted he will consider his position at Arsenal if it is going to cost him his place in France’s world cup squad.
The striker has been made to settle for a bench role ar Arsenal this season and it seems to be affecting his place in Didier Deschamps team.
Speaking in a recent documentary with L’Equipe, Giroud said he would consider if he has to leave Arsenal when the January transfer window opens.
“The World Cup,” he said as quoted by the Daily Cannon. “ I have it in my head every week, almost
every day. Every time I enter the field, it’s to be the most effective and
stay in the World Cup goal.”
On leaving in January: “He (Didier Deschamps) told me the things he
had to tell me, which is quite logical and what I understand. He wants
me to play more.
“It’s sure that in the end, even in January, I still have to ask myself the
question. It will not be easy to find the right solution and make the
right decision. But we will study the opportunities.”
Deschamps has already warned that Giroud risk missing the world cup if he isn’t playing regularly and it appears that’s on the striker’s mind.
Wenger recently stated he won’t let any of his players leave in the winter transfer window. So it remains to be seen what will be the manager’s reaction if Giroud asks for a move.
