Manchester United defender Eric Bailly is considering his future at Old Trafford after losing his place in the starting lineup, according to reports.
Arsenal and Tottenham are said to be frontrunners for his signature, which should come as no surprise as the two teams have defensive deficiencies.
While Tottenham’s defensive deficiencies are in the number of defenders, the Gunners deficiency is in the quality and performance of their defenders.
The Gunners seem to be settling well into life under Unai Emery with four straight wins after defeats to Chelsea and Manchester City at the start of the season, but have struggled defensively, failing to keep a cleansheet so far this season.
The Gunners made three defensive signings during the summer, but only one (Sokratis Papastathopoulos) has been a regular in the side, with Bernd Leno and Stephan Lichtsteiner both making their first starts for the club in the Europa league yesterday.
They have conceded 11 goals already this season, and Eric Baily could be the defender to shore up the defence in the same way Virgil Van Dijk did at Liverpool.
At 24, he would represent quality depth for the defensive area of the team and also be a long term replacement for aging and injury prone Laurent Koscienlny. At £31.5 million, Bailly would represent a very good deal.
