Liverpool and Arsenal are set to battle each other for the signature of Jack Butland in the summer.
Arsenal are believed to be eyeing a move for a top class goalkeeper after a series of unconvincing performances from Petr Cech. Atletico Madrid Jan Oblak has been linked with a move to the Emirates in recent weeks but it seems the club is keeping its options open.
According to the Sun via Daily Star, Arsenal are interested in signing Butland as a replacement for Cech.
However, the report claims the Gunners will face serious competition from Liverpool.
Klopp has already made signing a goalkeeper in the summer a priority and has made Butland his top target.
The Reds boss is believed to be frustrated with Simon Mignolet and wants to let him go so he can sign Butland in the summer.
Klopp tried to sign the Stoke City goalie in January but Paul Lambert made it clear that he wasn’t going to let the goalie leave midseason at any price.
They have now shelved their interest until the summer but are expected to go head to head with Arsenal for his signature.
Butland represents a more attainable target for Arsenal compared to Oblak who has a €100m release clause in his contract.
Liverpool were prepared to offer £40m for Butland in January and I expect the goalkeepers fee to be around that figure when Stoke eventually decides to sell.
