Besiktas have an agreement in place with David Ospina over a summer move, but they still need to agree a fee with Arsenal, according to reports.
Italian journalist Gianluigi Longari of SportItalia and TuttoMercatoWeb writes that Besiktas are pushing to close a deal, and they’ve already found an agreement with the player. There’s no agreement in place with Arsenal just yet though.
We already know that Besiktas president Fikret Orman and other club officials are in London, and according to Haber 1903 that’s to negotiate the transfer of Ospina and one other unnamed player. The officials were also reportedly trying to secure the sale of Domagoj Vida, but now it looks like there’s no chance of the player joining Arsenal.
Arsenal have also rejected a loan bid from Napoli for the goalkeeper, so it seems they’re trying to start a bit of a bidding war between the two clubs.
Napoli need a short-term replacement in goal, after new signing Alex Meret broke his arm before the season could even get underway. Ospina is more likely to want a starting spot, which is possibly why he’s agreed terms with Besiktas so quickly, as they can probably offer him that on a more permanent basis.
As we know, this transfer saga might not have an immediate conclusion, because there’s no rush for Arsenal to sell before the Premier League deadline. They have until the end of the month to sell to foreign clubs.
