Eddie Nketiah is back from injury, featuring for Leeds United at both u23 and senior level last week.
At the start of November, Eddie Nketiah picked up an abdominal injury ruling him out for four weeks. Thankfully, there were no setbacks in his recovery schedule, and he returned to feature for the u23s on Friday.
The striker came off the bench at half-time and had a few chances to score. He had an effort blocked after a free-kick, before narrowly failing to beat the goalkeeper in a one-on-one situation from a tight angle.
Nketiah then turned provider, with a back-heel pass leading to a well-saved Robbie Gotts shot. Finally, the striker had a header saved after a free-kick and saw another shot blocked.
A little bit frustrating not to get a goal contribution after all that, but at least the Arsenal loanee had shown his sharpness.
Marcelo Bielsa took notice and threw Nketiah into the senior squad for their game the next day. The 20-year-old came off the bench for the final 11 minutes against Middlesbrough, with his team already 4-0 up, and he helped see out the win.
Leeds are on a good run of form, winning their last five games. As a result, it’s likely to be difficult for Nketiah to break into the starting lineup immediately.
As the fixtures get busier over the festive period though, he’s sure to get a chance. He just needs to take it.
