Ole Gunnar Solskjaer must sell Manchester United stars Paul Pogba and Alexis Sanchez this month, according to Arsenal hero Charlie Nicholas.

The English summer transfer window closed on Thursday but Premier League clubs can still offload players as other countries have different closure dates.

French World Cup winner Pogba has been heavily linked with a departure from Old Trafford and is said to have his heart set on a move to Real Madrid.

Alexis Sanchez, meanwhile, has endured a miserable spell at Manchester United since signing from Arsenal in January 2018.

Looking ahead to United’s opening Premier League fixture against Chelsea, Nicholas told Sky Sports: ‘What an absolute belter of a game to start the campaign.

‘Ole Gunnar Solskjaer is trying to get certain players out and certain players in. We will know the formation and style by Sunday.

‘Romelu Lukaku has gone and he will have to sell Paul Pogba and Alexis Sanchez too – he has another three weeks or so to do that.

‘Chelsea are under the transfer embargo and so the youngsters will come in. They have issues defensively as well after David Luiz left.

‘I am looking for Marcus Rashford to be a proper number nine and I see him being the match-winner on the day.’

Solskjaer appeared to dismiss the chances of Sanchez leaving Manchester United last week and hinted at a new role for the Chilean forward.

‘Alexis has come in and trained well,’ said Solskjaer at his pre-match press conference before Sunday’s clash with Chelsea.

‘He’s four or five weeks behind the boys and has not played apart from the one behind closed doors here, so I think he’ll see this as an opportunity as well to make his mark.

‘I do expect him to stay, there’s a striker there we think is going to be able to score some goals.’ Manchester United finished sixth in the Premier League last term.
