Arsenal are pushing to sign Swedish striker Emil Roback and even invited the teenager over to visit the club, according to Hammarby sports director Jesper Jansson.
Jansson claims Arsenal are one of a number of major clubs following Emil Roback. Speaking to Fotboll Direkt, the director specifically confirmed interest from Bayern Munich and Arsenal.
“They contacted us and we know about their interest,” Jansson said. “He has also met Arsenal. There is a strong interest and there are more clubs (after him) as well. He has also been to visit Arsenal.
“Yes, I understand the interest. He is a forward with great physique and speed and already a skilled goalscorer.”
Jansson also confirmed that both Bayern and Arsenal contacted Hammarby directly.
Roback is a 16-year-old centre-forward, standing at around 6’1″. He made the squad for Hammarby’s first-team fixture in the Swedish cup earlier this season. Though he’s yet to make his league debut, Jansson didn’t rule out that possibility this season.
Internationally, Roback is at u17 level with Sweden. He started the campaign with the u16s, but a hat-trick against Norway earned him a promotion to the u17 side. He then scored on his debut against Denmark in a friendly.
