Club Boss Reacts to Reports Of Star Defender’s January Transfer to Arsenal

Bayern Munich boss Hansi Flick insists he isn’t worrying about Arsenal interest in Jerome Boateng, as he can’t imagine the player leaving this month.

Hansi Flick faced questions on Jerome Boateng after reports of a possible move to Arsenal in the last week or so.

Sky recently claimed Boateng wants to leave Bayern Munich in the January window. Arsenal reportedly made enquiries over transfer fees, wages and loan possibilities. Bayern want around €15m for a transfer, according to further reports.

Bayern boss Flick wouldn’t fuel the flames of speculation though, insisting he can’t imagine Boateng leaving.

“Jerome is a Bayern player,” said Flick. “He has trained well during the winter break. I can’t wait to see what the next few weeks will be like. I’m not worrying about if he’ll leave the club or not. I can’t imagine that at the moment.”

Bayern kick off again on Saturday, after the winter break, so we’ll see if Boateng starts. He was in and out of the team before the break, starting twice in five matches and coming off early in both. He’s up to eight starts in 17 league games overall this season.

Boateng plays at centre-back, but he can also play at full-back. Most likely, Arsenal would use him in the middle, given their problems at centre-back. Some reports suggest the recent injury to Calum Chambers is forcing them into the market.
