Marcos Alonso admitted Ruben Loftus-Cheek’s hopes of appearing in the upcoming Europa League final don’t ‘look good’ after he suffered an injury during last night’s friendly win over New England Revolution.
The England international’s progress has regularly been hindered by back injuries and was forced off during last week’s semi final win over Eintracht Frankfurt with cramp.
Despite struggling to win over his manager Maurizio Sarri, the 23-year-old has played an increasingly significant role as the season progressed and would likely have started the final against Arsenal on May 29 had he not succumbed to injury last night.
Chelsea fear the attacking midfielder has suffered an Achilles injury, similar to the one which has ruled his teammate Callum Hudson-Odoi out until the start of next season, and he was seen leaving the Gillette Stadium in a protective boot, before boarding the flight back to London with the rest of Sarri’s squad.

‘They still don’t know but I think Ruben has a little bit of pain,’ said the Spaniard.
‘It doesn’t look very good to be honest. But fingers crossed he will be back as soon as possible. I think it’s his Achilles, he was on his own.’
Ross Barkley scored a brace in a comfortable 3-0 victory, with Olivier Giroud grabbing Chelsea’s second of the game.
Sarri made six changes at half-time, with Loftus-Cheek one of the players to come off the bench.Loading...
