Chelsea 6 v 0 Arsenal: player ratings

Chelsea v Arsenal - Premier League

Terrible performance for Arsene Wenger’s 1000th game on the bench. Every Arsenal player deserves to sit in the corner and look down for a whole night.

Wojciech Szczesny | 1.0: Should have done better.

Bacary Sagna | 1.0: We were destroyed from every part of the pitch. Bac didn’t excel in either of positions he played today.

Per Mertesacker | 1.5: Defence wasn’t organized well and his lack of pace was heavily exploited.

Laurent Koscielny | 1.5: Was substituted at the interval. He wasn’t at his best.

Kieran Gibbs | 1.5: Wrongly sent off but he wasn’t in the game before that either as Schürrle did what he wanted to.

Mikel Arteta | 1.0: He can’t play against top teams, at least not without Flamini or Ramsey next to him. I like Mikel a lot but he is well past his prime and that should be acknowledged this summer.

Alex Oxlade-Chamberlain | 1.0: Conceded a penalty with an intentional hand-ball that wasn’t even needed as Hazard’s shot would have gone wide. Should have been sent off had Marriner hadn’t been a typical Premiership referee – incompetent. He was poor during the game and he should have never started in DM-pivot role. He should have started as a right winger or in the hole. Replaced at the interval.

Tomas Rosicky | 2.5: He actually created three chances – one for Giroud, one for Cazorla and one for himself. Still, he was at fault for one goal.

Santi Cazorla | 2.0: He tried and tried but nothing went well for the little Spaniard. He had a good shot in the second half but it went wide.

Lukas Podolski | 1.0: Sorry, Lukas, but it simply won’t work. He is a really nice lad, a brave young man who understands the concept of human rights very well but he is not a footballer for Arsenal. To put him on the left flank in this kind of game was Wenger’s suicide.

Olivier Giroud | 0.75: Giroud. Can’t. Lead. Arsenal’s. Attack. Because. He. Can’t. Score. Against. Top. Teams. If PSG really want him, we should use him as a make-weight to sign Cavani at any price.

Thomas Vermaelen | 1.5: It’s hard to blame him for this defeat but he wasn’t good enough today and didn’t show why Koscielny or Mertesacker should fear for their place in the starting eleven.

Carl Jenkinson | 1.5: Replaced Koscielny at the interval. This season has been like a second-season-syndrome for him. He was much better last term.

Mathieu Flamini | 1.5: Couldn’t do much. The biggest Wenger’s mistake was not to play Flamini from the beginning.
