Arsenal players demonstrated out to the rest of the world with panache how not to celebrate your legendary manager’s landmark game. It’s becoming something of a habit this season, concede first, surrender hands down, shoot yourself in the foot, dig a hole for yourself and plummet into the molten core of the earth. That was the best I could do without the expletives. Chelsea 6 – Arsenal 0. The sight of Mourinho celebrating just gives me disgusting shudders.
Arsene Wenger couldn’t have dreamt of a worse nightmare, he might have dreamt of John Terry in an Arsenal shirt and playing alongside Henry but he wouldn’t have envisioned such a performance even when he had been tortured to think other wise. In short Chelsea scythed us, we won’t let them do it, so our midfield took charge, eviscerated the defence and later hung themselves.
The first goal stemmed from a poor giveaway at the centre by Alex Oxlade-Chamberlain, Eto was free on the right and he curled into the far corner. The second was the carbon copy but this time Cazorla stepped up to outdo the Ox and lost it to Matic and the Serbian laid it onto Schurrle who drilled it home. 2-0 down in 7 minutes. The perfect Arsenal start.
We weren’t content with our efforts so we conceded a penalty and got reduced to 10 men.The build up to that penalty was typical Marriner. He sent off Gibbs for a handball on the line by Chamberlain.Excellent. Podolski was sacrificed and in his place came Vermaelen. Hazard hammered it home and Oscar made it four before halftime. I haven’t seen a worse performance from Chamberlain in Arsenal colours and Cazorla has been a liability for some time now.
In the second half Arsene made two changes Flamini on for Chamberlain and Jenkinson for Koscielny. Chelsea didn’t threaten too much and we were content to go forward when the opportunity presented itself. Rosicky didn’t enjoy it one bit so he passed to Oscar on the edge of our box who hit a weak shot and the ball ended up in the net as Szczesny couldn’t save it. Salah nailed the coffin when he found himself in acres of space behind the Gunners backline.
Sometimes it’s better for the psyche not to revisit certain things and this is one such. The players let the club down, their manager down and their fans down who to their credit sang until the final whistle. Let’s kiss the title good bye.
