Dani Ceballos says he chose to join Arsenal over Liverpool because Unai Emery convinced him he fits the club’s philosophy.
Dani Ceballos joined Arsenal on a season-long loan over the summer, but he also had the option to join a couple of other Premier League clubs. We all know he turned down Tottenham Hotspur, but he also had the chance to join Liverpool.
Speaking to the Spanish media this week, Ceballos explained why he didn’t pick the Premier League leaders.
“That a club like Liverpool loves you makes you proud,” Ceballos admitted. “But my decision was to go to Arsenal because Emery took my hand and told me to join him.
“Klopp is a great coach but you have to see the philosophy of each team. Right now, players of my philosophy in a team like Liverpool would not fit in the best possible way. But being linked to the greats shows you are doing something right.”
At first, Ceballos’ choice looked like a smart one. As nice as it would be to cruise to a title with Liverpool, the Real Madrid midfielder just wants to play matches ahead of the Euros this summer.
Making 17 appearances in Arsenal’s first 17 games isn’t a bad return, on that front. Unfortunately, Ceballos admits he actually pushed himself to play too often, ending up with an injury. He missed a few months of football as a result.
The midfielder is back now, and Arsenal could certainly use some fresh ideas creatively. Ceballos needs to show his loan club why they were right to bring him to North London.
