Hertha Berlin’s sporting director Michael Preetz says Matteo Guendouzi has ‘enriched’ the team following his arrival on loan from Arsenal.
The 21-year-old was frozen out by Mikel Arteta towards the end of last season after he was involved in a bust-up with Neal Maupay during Arsenal’s defeat to Brighton.
Guendouzi returned to first-team training in September but continued to be left out of Arsenal’s matchday squad by Arteta.
Four weeks later, Guendouzi completed his move to Hertha Berlin on a season-long loan deal but the midfielder’s start with his new club was hindered after he tested positive for coronavirus.
Guendouzi has made just two appearances for Hertha Berlin so far but Preez has praised the French midfielder’s impact and is not ruling out a permanent transfer next summer.
‘Three months ago, Matteo’s loan signing wasn’t possible, but it was at the beginning of October,’ Preetz told Kicker.
‘We are happy that he is here and that he enriched our game from the start. ‘We’ll see everything else next summer.
‘How the prices will develop by then and what Arsenal are planning then, nobody can say today.’
