Arsenal vs Swansea Match Report

article-2589349-1C90BB3400000578-117_634x345It doesn’t get any worse does it, coming back from a goal down to lead and concede the freakish of goals in stoppage time. Everything is going against Arsenal at the moment and these aren’t happy times to be a Gunner. The 2-2 draw with Swansea means that the title is gone and it does look like another dogfight for champions league. The response wasn’t quite the response. The groans and the moans from the crowd certainly didn’t help and the players put in a tepid show for three quarters of the match.

Arsenal started bossing the ball and enjoyed sterile possession. Swansea were content to sit back and play on the counter. In their first meaningful attack they scored. Bony planted a powerful header off a ball from the left and Vermaelen should have done better. The start we dreaded.

Arsenal saw lot of the ball but hardly tested Michael Vorm. In a typical Arsenal fashion, Swansea had a chance on the break from an Arsenal corner and fortunately Michu wasn’t decisive. The rest of the half was uneventful and at the end of the first half, there was a smattering of boos ringing around the Emirates.

Arsenal started the second half similar to the first half , all passing and no penetration. Podolski came on for Oxlade- Chamberlain, the Englishman was rusty all night. The Gunners passed, passed and just passed. Gibbs who was excellent throughout the game, broke into the Swansea half and cut in a ball, Podolski finished it from close range. Arsenal players started to believe again and within a minute Podolski put in a wicked cross from the left and Giroud made it 2-1. Relief, Ecstasy whatever. Arsenal score two goals in the space of a minute after huffing and puffing for about 70 minutes.

Kim Kallstrom made his long awaited debut for Arsenal when he came on for Rosicky and the Swede put in some good tackles, had some good touches and played in some lovely passes. He adds some height and physicality to our midfield.

The clock was ticking and Arsenal were edging towards a nervy win. However, it wasn’t to be the case, Britton darted into the box , tracked by Flamini, Mertesacker touched the ball away from the onrushing Swansea man, Szczesny toed it further away from Britton and goal but unfortunately the ball ricocheted off Flamini and rolled into the net. Heartbreak for Arsenal. Emirates stunned and any lingering hopes we had of the title were extinguished.

Everton are catching up and we meet them in 10 days and lets consolidate our top 4 place. It would be ironic to lose our champions league status after topping the table for so long.
