Mesut Ozil could get Unai Emery sacked at Arsenal, according to Gunners hero Ray Parlour.
Former Germany international Ozil signed a new £350,000-a-week contract at the Emirates last year but has fallen out of favour under Emery.
Ozil has started just 13 of Arsenal’s 26 Premier League fixtures this season but remains one of the most influential players in north London.
Emery reportedly lost the dressing during his time with PSG after clashing with Neymar and Parlour fears a similar situation could play out at the Emirates with Ozil.
‘It’s been a little bit like PSG with Neymar,’ he said.
‘Neymar ended up getting Emery the sack. ‘He lost the dressing room and Neymar was pulling the strings there. Maybe it could be the same at Arsenal.’
Ozil, 30, has been linked with a move away from Arsenal but his lucrative wages will pose a problem for any potential suitors. Asked if he thinks Ozil will end up leaving the Gunners, Parlour added:
‘It looks like that could happen.
‘I go back to the dilemma of what Arsenal have got. He’s on £350,000-a-week. Who is going to pay that sort of money?
‘There’s got to be a time in your career, when you’re over 30 you know you’re on a slippery slope. You have to come to a decision.
‘He could stick his heels in and sit out his contract, and say “play me when you want”. The players hold all the power.
‘When you’re left out you want a reaction from the player – especially from training. Show the attitude you want to get back into the team somehow.
‘I don’t know what he’s been like in training.’
Arsenal returned to winning ways on Saturday by beating bottom-placed Huddersfield Town 2-1 away from home.
The Gunners are currently fifth in the Premier League and face BATE Borisov in the Europa League on Thursday evening.
