Arsenal have revived their interest in former target Mario Gotze as he looks to leave Borussia Dortmund to kick start his career again, according to the Daily Mirror.
The attacking midfielder who scored the goal that won Germany the 2014 World Cup in Brazil has seen his career decline since then, culminating in his missing out on the squad to this year’s World Cup in Russia.
After his goal against Argentina in that final, his form at Bayern Munich declined. failing to live up to his potentials, he eventually returned to Borussia Dortmund
His return to Borussia Dortmund hasn’t gone as planned however, as he has yet to recapture the form which saw him move to Bayern in a Bundesliga record deal.
He struggled with injuries and a metabolic disease last year, but recovered and showed his ability in flashes. However, he didn’t do enough to convince Joachim Low to take him to the World Cup.
The German national team boss Low, speaking of the player said; “If a player scores the decisive goal in the final at such a young age, it can be a burden later.
“This season was not what we have all wished for from Mario Gotze. He just did not have the form. It’s a difficult decision but I hope he returns.”
He is now eyeing a move to the Premier League to get a fresh start, and the likes of Arsenal, Everton and West Ham are now monitoring his situation ahead of a potential £18 million move.
