Arsenal transfer target Joachim Andersen admits he would happily follow Marco Giampaolo to AC Milan should the Sampdoria manager depart for the Rossoneri.

Unai Emery is desperate to reinforce a defence which shipped 51 Premier League goals last season and capitulated in the Europa League final against Chelsea.

That defeat cost Arsenal their last chance of returning to Europe’s top tier competition and put a huge dent in Emery’s spending power this summer.

The Spaniard has been afforded a measly £40million budget, but that could be significantly enhanced by player sales, particularly if Arsenal are able to find buyers for Mesut Ozil, Henrikh Mkhitaryan and Shkodran Mustafi who have all reportedly been deemed surplus to requirements.

Regardless of his spending power, defensive reinforcements represent a priority for Emery in light of the departure of Stephan Lichtsteiner.

Rob Holding and Hector Bellerin, meanwhile, are unlikely to be fit in time for the start of the new season, while Sead Kolasinac, Laurent Koscielny and Nacho Monreal have all been linked with moves in recent weeks.

Andersen, 23, has emerged as a potential target this week along with his current teammate Dennis Praet, viewed as a potential Aaron Ramsey replacement, but the Denmark international could have his sights set on Milan instead.

‘I haven’t read much in media about Giampaolo leaving, but I’m happy for him,’ he told EkstraBladet.

‘I’m also a little disappointed as he’s leaving. If I dream of joining him? I can’t respond to that and I don’t know my future, but Milan is a great club.’
