Arsenal are being touted as front runners for Riyad Mahrez’s signature, according to reports.
Mahrez wanted to leave Leicester last season but couldn’t secure a move. The Foxes wanted around £50m for the winger but none of his suitors were willing to pay that much.
Arsenal were one of the clubs interested in the winger last summer but the Gunners were reportedly willing to pay just £25m which wasn’t enough to get a deal done.
With the January transfer window in full swing, Arsenal, Liverpool, Chelsea are believed to be eyeing the wantaway forward.
However, it is the Gunners who are the bookies favorites to sign the winger. Bookmakers Coral has placed Arsenal at an odd of 15/8 to sign the winger. Chelsea follow at 3/1 while Liverpool follow the Blues closely at 4/1.
AS Roma after coming closest to signing the midfielder last summer are placed at 10/1 to sign him this month.
“It looks as though Mahrez is keen to remain in England, and with Arsenal plagued with confusion over the futures of Sanchez and Ozil, it looks as though Wenger will be keen to secure his signature,” said Coral’s Harry Aitkenhead, as quoted by the Express.
Some Gooners have been impressed by Mahrez’s form this season and wouldn’t mind him at the Emirates. I am one of those who have been impressed by the former PFA player of the year.
While there are calls that Mahrez should be brought in as Alexis Sanchez’s replacement, I think Arsenal should sign him regardless of what happens with the Chilean.
He is better suited out right and will be a weapon down the right flank, if we revert to our four at the back formation.
