Former Arsenal academy striker Donyell Malen has received his first call-up to the senior Netherlands team, ahead of the upcoming international break.

The Netherlands face Germany and Estonia over the September international break in a couple of Euro 2020 qualifiers, and they announced their squad for the fixtures on Wednesday morning:

Among the names on the list were plenty of well-known names from the Premier League, such as Virgil van Dijk, Nathan Ake and Georginio Wijnaldum, but there was also a spot for former Arsenal forward Donyell Malen.

Malen left the Arsenal academy for PSV in 2018, and he went on to score 11 goals and assist five more in his first season for his new club.

Still just 20 years old, the striker has made a positive start to the new campaign as well, scoring twice and assisting twice in eight appearances so far.

Malen also impressed in his last appearance for the Netherlands u21s, scoring twice and assisting once against Mexico in May.

Those in charge with the Netherlands’ national team have clearly taken note, and they’re ready to give him a chance with the senior side.
