Arsenal midfielder Gedion Zelalem is set to mark his 17th birthday today by receiving his first professional contract, according to reports in Daily Mail.
The 17 year old made his Arsenal debut on Friday when the club moved through to the fifth round of the FA Cup with a 4-0 win over Coventry.
The German also made history by becoming the first player to represent Arsenal born since Arsene Wenger first took charge of the club in 1996 and is now expected to be made a full member of the squad by Wenger on his birthday.
The talented youngster came through Hertha Berlin’s youth ranks before being scouted by the Gunners in the United States. He has made six appearances in all competitions for the Arsenal development squad, while also featuring for the German U-17 side on one occasion this season and announced himself on the big stage during the club’s pre-season tour of Asia.
He is widely regarded as one of the finest young players in Europe and the new contract will be a huge moment of importance for the midfielder’s career. He has already been touted as the new Fabregas due to his outrageous potential.
He is technically very good on the ball, has an eye for a clever pass and keeps thing neat and tidy, which is a sign of promising player in my eyes. He still has a long way to go to become the player many expect him to be, but the foundations are there and with more game time he can only get better.
Is Zelalem the next Fabregas?
