Who deserves/needs a chance against Coventry and who should be rested?

By Rachid

In our squad we have many players who have just returned from injury or who are in need of a game or two to keep their fitness up.

In my view we also need to give a few youngsters a start such as Zelalem, Miyaichi and Frimpong who impressed in pre season. These three are very young at the moment so playing them against Premier League opposition isn’t a good idea so the FA cup is probably the only real chance of first team football for players like these. Also, in Miyaichi I can see a striker in the making. He is quick, isn’t bad at shooting, very tricky and can hold up the play with his unpredictability. He will also be able to give Giroud a rest so he won’t wilt like he did at the end of last year.

Two players who have recently returned from injury are Podolski and Chamberlain. Podolski hasn’t really had much game time as of yet but when he has played he has produced some cracking performances. Chamberlain played his first game since coming back from injury against Aston Villa and you could see how determined he was to win a starting place. However, he did make a few silly challenges and maybe against a smaller team like Coventry he could gain some experience and start getting back into the rhythm of Arsenal’s game.

Some first team players need a rest such as Sagna and Özil. There are many other players that also need a rest but I’ve picked out these two because they have played in nearly every game of the season. Sagna has only had a couple of games rest and while Özil had part of Christmas off he has at least featured in almost every other game.

For these reasons I believe our starting line up should be:

Viviano
Jenkinson Vermaelen Koscielny Gibbs
Wilshere Frimpong
Chamberlain Zelalem Podolski

Miyaichi
