Arsene Wenger has revealed he is ready to spend big this winter.
Wenger who has always clamored for the January transfer window to be scrapped could rely on it to strengthen the squad going into the second half of the season.
The club recently signed Greek defender Mavropanos and Wenger has confirmed that more signings should be expected before the close of the transfer window. However, the manager admitted that the club isn close to signing anyone at the moment
“I cannot give you any news on an transfer because we are not close to signing anybody,” he said, when asked about transfers.
“We signed a Greek boy (Mavropanos) who looks quite good in training but apart from that, we have not done anything. Will we be out there to do something? Ye we will. Yes (there could be developments this week), because we are in th second week of January and, after that, it passes quickly.”
Last week, it was reported that Arsenal were closing in on West Brom’s Jonny Evans but Wenger’s comment has rubbished those stories. Arsenal have reportedly stepped up its pursuit of Bordeaux winger Malcom and the Brazilian could join the club as a replacement for Alexis Sanchez who is pushing for a move to Manchester City.
A defender is also believed to be on Wenger’s radar and all these would definitely cost a lot of Money. If Wenger backs his words with action, it will be Arsenal’s busiest winter transfer window in the last couple of years.
