Everton are keeping tabs on Calum Chambers, as Ronald Koeman prepares to build a team that can cope with the demands of European football and league football.
The Toffees have already shelled out £70m on new signings this summer, including a £30m move for Jordan Pickford – a former Arsenal target.
However, Koeman is not prepared to stop there and could make a move for Chambers before the transfer window ends.
According to The Daily Mail, Chambers will become Everton’s main target at centre back should they fail to sign Burnley’s Micheal Keane.
Chambers spent last season on loan at Middlesbrough and gave a good account of himself but he failed to make an impact at the Emirates prior to the move to Teeside.
Although Arsenal would prefer he spends another season out on loan, it is believed Wenger won’t block a permanent transfer should we receive a lucrative bid for his services.
According to The Daily Mail, a bid in the region of £15m is lucrative enough to convince Arsenal into parting ways with Chambers permanently.
Newcastle and Bournemouth were also impressed by the defender’s performances at Boro last term and could make a move of theirs as the transfer window progresses.
The emergence of Rob Holding and Arsenal being linked with a host of centre backs have made the chances of Chambers making an impact at Arsenal very slim.
With just two years left in Chambers’ contract, this could be the perfect time to sell him and I think the price being quoted by this report is a fair one for all parties.
