Arsenal appear to be seriously interested in Besiktas Oguzhan Ozyakup, according to reports.
Last week there were several reports linking Arsenal with a move for the Turkish midfielder. It was claimed that Wenger has held talks with the player’s representative to ascertain the possibility of a summer move.
It was also claimed that Wenger has become obsessed with signing the 25 year old, after failing with a €7m bid in the summer.
And now Arsenal reportedly sent scouts to watch Ozyakup on Tuesday.
The Gunners representatives were reportedly present at Besiktas Champions League game against Bayern Munich but, the midfielder didn’t play for the Turkish side on the night.
The midfielder is said to be on Wenger’s radar as a potential target to strengthen the midfield ahead of next season. The fact he’d be available on a free transfer makes him even a more appealing target.
Ozyakup has developed into a top player at Besiktas since leaving Arsenal as a youngster in 2012. The midfielder was part of Arsenal’s youth academy before he was sold to the Turkish giants for just £450,000.
His development has been so rapid that Wenger has been impressed by the player he has become.
Tuesday’s game against Bayern would have been a perfect opportunity to watch the midfielder against a top class opposition but unfortunately, he didn’t get to play a part in the game.
I’m sure Arsenal will continue to monitor him until the end of the season before making a final decision on him.
