Arsene Wenger is reportedly keen on Lucas Vazquez, according to reports.
Arsenal have been linked with a lot of wingers already this summer. It’s likely due to the uncertainty surrounding the futures of Theo Walcott and Alexis Sanchez.
The latter has refused to extend his contract which expires at the end of the season while the former is unhappy with his lack of regular playing time.
And according to reports in Spain, Vazquez who has been involved heavily in Madrid’s team this season, although he’s only started five league games this season, is top of Arsenal’s radar.
Don Balon via Sports Mole says Wenger wants the Spaniard to come in to replace Alexis Sanchez.
The report says Vazquez could feature less in the second half of the season due to the imminent arrival of Gareth Bale from injury and that could trigger a January move to the Emirates.
Although Arsenal would do well with a player of Vazquez quality, I don’t see a move happening this month.
First, Madrid are struggling in the league and it is unlikely they will want to deplete their attacking options this winter.
Secondly, the Spaniard’s have realized how difficult it is to cope when you let fringe players leave without signing adequate replacements and they won’t want to make same mistakes after Alvaro Morata and James Rodriguez’s departures to Chelsea and Bayern Munich respectively.
As for Arsenal, Vazquez won’t be the right man to replace Alexis. The Madrid man doesn’t have enough goals in his game to make the difference like Alexis does. So it won’t make much sense to sign him as a replacement.
