Arsene Wenger has confirmed that Mathieu Flamini will return to the Gunners squad this weekend against Crystal Palace after his five day stand-down as a result of a concussion sustained last weekend against Norwich City.
The Frenchman was missed in the midweek loss at the hands of Borussia Dortmund, a match that saw Jack Wilshere replaced before the hour as a result of an ankle knock. The Gunners boss confirmed the Englishman will undergo a test before Saturday’s match to confirm his fitness.
Wenger also discussed Ozil’s performance on Tuesday night and believes he was hampered by a virus prior to the fixture however was able to partake in the match.
The Gunners boss told the media of the latest team news in his pre-match press conference:
Flamini is available because he had no basic injury – it was just a precaution. Wilshere will be checked by the medical people.
James Olley of the London Evening Standard (present at the press conference) tweeted:
Wenger revealed Ozil had a virus and was sick before the Dortmund game – still felt able to play but explains “why he was not at his best”.
