Arsene Wenger wants to see out the remainder of his contract and isn’t thinking of leaving the Emirates in the summer.
There are reports that Arsenal would reconsider Wenger’s future in the summer with the likes of Luis Enrique and Carlo Ancelotti being touted as potential successors to the French tactitian.
The Telegraph who are pretty reliable with Arsenal news yesterday claimed Gunners chiefs weren’t mentally prepared to replace Wenger last summer and that was why he was offered an extension.
With the availability of proven winners at the end of the season, Wenger’s position would be reconsidered depending on Arsenal’s achievement this season.
But Wenger has responded to those rumours by saying he wants to see out the two years he was offered at the end of last season.
Wenger told beIN Sports via Goal on his future plans: “I have always respected my contracts.
“I would like to remind you I said no to all the biggest clubs in the world to respect my contract so that’s always what I try to do.
“After that we have as well to accept in our job that the future is the future but for me that’s to win the next game.
“We have to perform better in every single game and show until the end of the season a complete hunger to win every single game. That’s what it’s about for us.
“The players who came in, have they the quality to give us something special? Yes. But it is about proving that on the field.”
Wenger’s position has come under scrutiny in recent years, having lifted the Premier League title last in 2004.
The club now face a battle to qualify for the UEFA Champions League after missing out on it last season.
A failure to do so for the second consecutive season will have a strong consequence on his future.
